NATALIA VILLANUEVA LINARES

Natalia is a French Peruvian Artist graduated with honors from the National Superior School of Fine Arts of Paris. She currently lives in Chicago and works between the United States, Peru and France. Her work has been shown in two major exhibitions at the Palais des Beaux Arts in Paris, in galleries and art fairs in Peru, France, Germany, the US, Italy, Spain and recently Ecuador. She in a moment maker, specialized installation and performance.
She is the co-founder of the non-profit organization Yaku in the city of Peoria, IL where she lived for the past few years developing a closer understanding of the midwestern artistic approaches to confront/introduce it to an international audience through residency programs and exhibitions. She co-directs the artist-run space High Place in Peoria IL and actively creatives cultural bridges to celebrate infinite forms of uniqueness.

MURIEL BABANDISHA

Muriel is a Curator, a writer and the Director of the European branch of Yaku Non profit organization. She has an MBA in Market & International Art Trade. Muriel worked for art galleries such as Silberkuppe in Berlin, Galerie Dohyang Lee in Paris. She managed and assisted multiple renown artists, Emmanuel Régent, most recently Kapwani Kiwanga. She is in charge of the Visual arts curation, production coordination and fundraising of the Yango Biennale in Congo.

EARL POWER MURPHY
Editor in chief (English) + Writer
Classically trained educator with experience in public, private, and alternative realms, working with varied age groups and subjects. Most recently, professional time has been committed to working in medical education and exploring the role healthcare systems can play in reducing health inequities.
Earl is also the Co-founder of the Not for profit organization Yaku Peoria and Co-Directs of the Artist-run Space High Place

JOHN SECKLER
Graphic Design
John is a branding and design consultant, creative director, art director, and shitty muralist. He has been involved in Yaku and Ukayzine almost from the very beginning. A native of Peoria, John split 20 years between San Francisco and NYC before returning to Peoria to—accidentally—get involved. Currently John is working to develop entrepreneurial community art/design projects that engage young people, primarily in the East Bluff neighborhood. John would be a lot more productive if it wasn't for basketball. So what.

Maria is a graphic designer based in Phoenix Arizona. She has been involved with the Non profit Yaku Peoria Arts team for the past 4 years. She brought our online Ukayzine back to life.

Photography + Resident of Sunday gestures series project
Skyler is a photographer, artist, and student of Mother Earth based in Peoria IL. He studied and practiced photojournalism in his hometown of Pekin, Illinois from 2009 to 2015 and currently works as a freelance photographer and videographer in Peoria. Skyler is a founding member of the not for profit organization Yaku and a member of the Art collective Eight Headed Snake Dick, he has contributed to many collaborative exhibitions in Peoria and believes in the creative potential of his city. He is also a member of the band Heavenworld, and Fresh Whirled Music label.

NATALIA VIERA SALGADO
Curator 2020
Natalia Viera Salgado is a Puerto Rican independent curator and curatorial consultant based in New York City and Puerto Rico. She is also the co-founder of :Pública Espacio Cultural, an independent art space in Alto del Cabro, Santurce Puerto Rico. Her art historical research focuses on contemporary art in relation to decolonial practices, architecture, social and environmental justice, and new media with a keen interest in hybrid and interdisciplinary projects. She has collaborated with División del Diseño(Puerto Rico), worked at El Museo del Barrio (New York, NY), Art in General (Brooklyn, New York), Socrates Sculpture Park (Queens, New York) and The Nathan Cummings Foundation (New York). Viera is a founding member of Colectivo se habla español, a collective working on artistic and social projects that expand the limits of language while addressing migration, identity, human rights, and memory. She is currently the curatorial resident at the Abrons Arts Center.
